Elli - The Elbow Handle

Door handles are a very common, unavoidable contact point for our hands, which makes them a hotspot for infection.

And here comes Elli! With this door handle you can open and close any door with your elbow or forearm.

This retrofitting solution works on any door with a 8mm square steel rod as pivot point. It fits on each door at my home or workplace.
Most common handles use a M6 grub screw to keep the handle in place and so does Elli.

Keep in mind that the square steel rod is attached to one of the door handles in most cases. If you want to equip both sides of a door you might need to buy some square steel rod and cut it to length. 1m was 5€ at my local hardware store!
I will post an instruction soon!

This is the first prototype, but it works very well. Its already in use at my workplace!

I will test other designs and maybe update the print on here on the next days - so stay tuned!

Print instructions

I used PLA, 20% infill and 4 perimeters and it's sturdy enough. No supports needed.
Printing time was 2.5h for one handle.

If the 8mm fit is too tight, consider heating up the square steel rod in boiling water and pressing it into the fitting. Be cautios though!
