Ancient relic: Handheld explosive device crafted from ceramic, salvaged from the ill-fated Alderney Elizabethan Wreck. In excellent condition, this complete buff-colored ceramic pot, likely of Beauvais ware origin, showcases impressive craftsmanship. The find is one of over 160 sherds of its kind discovered on the historic wreck site off the coast of Alderney in the Channel Islands, which dates back to the 16th century Elizabethan era. Archaeologists believe this artifact to be a ceramic firepot, essentially a medieval precursor to the hand grenade.
