Elf Door - Tonttuovi
thingiverse
The entrance doors at shopping centers looked so plain and uninteresting, so I decided to create my own designs. It's intended to be printed with varying hues using a one-nozzle printer. The final layers of colors should be set at 5.0, 7.0, and 10.0 mm so the first layer of the next color is that height plus your layer height. This way you achieve what's rendered in the model image; base and door plank gaps in one color, door planks in a second color, door frame in a third color (same as color #1 in the rendering), and handles, hinges, and ornaments in a fourth color. You can either stand guard beside your printer to change filament at the right time (it's a lengthy print) or use e.g. Prusa's multi-color tool to inject automatic stops at the correct levels. https://www.prusaprinters.org/color-print/ I failed to correctly set the stop heights, setting them to the above heights instead of plus layer height, so I only got one layer of plank color, but it still works fairly well anyway. Only a little "wear" in the bottom of the planks, which actually makes it more realistic. The elves have been lazy to repaint their door. I'd love to see your versions, so please post your creations here! I used an unbranded Chinese white PLA, Filamentive red rPLA, and Fillamentum Rapunzel Silver. A light wood filament would have made a nice touch in the door frame, in retrospect. As seen in the stairs in the photo. Oh, and the stairs were designed by devonjones (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2283637), thanks for a great design!
