Elevated 40mm Sink Drain Stopper/Strainer
thingiverse
I was dissatisfied with other sink strainers because they either didn't fit my sink or caused tangles that blocked the water flow completely, leaving me with a sink swamp. To solve this problem, I designed a new sink stopper in Fusion 360 that raises up as it catches debris, allowing the water to continue draining. This design gives me the opportunity to test its effectiveness and identify any potential flaws. The first prototype has some issues that need to be addressed before printing a second one. The overhang ring should be separated into two parts for easier removal of supports after printing, and the STL file should be pre-rotated for optimal printing results. Additionally, I noticed that the pin in the middle broke during my first print and may not serve any purpose, so it's likely unnecessary. The top holes are also quite small, which could cause clogging issues if the first layer isn't applied correctly. As an added benefit, I observed that when the water level drops to the side holes, the flow rate slows down, allowing debris to accumulate and creating a visually appealing swirly pattern in the process.
