I wanna get this out of the way - the spool holder at the end looks vaguely like an elephant's trunk. There. No questions. Accept it. I have a weird thought process. Anyhoo, this is the second version of my bigger, girthier i3 Spool Holder (https://www.myminifactory.com/object/3d-print-longer-girthier-i3-spool-holder-96083). This design isn't meant to reduce overall plastic usage but to get better overall long-term strength with a minimum amount of plastic needed; although this means there might be more plastic by weight needed to get the desired effect. So I will just list the changes. I'm lazy and the list is straightforward. Changes: Spool Rod Walls are 2mm thinner (3mm vs earlier 5mm) Infill percentage (Gyroid Infill) was increased from 20% to 25%. Layer height has been reduced from .2mm to .16mm, for a smoother surface. A central rib has been added down the center of the spool holding rod, spreading out downward pressure and reinforcing the rod. The previous version was hollow. Because of previously mentioned rib, no support material is needed for the printing of the design. Extra material has been added towards the rear of the rod (See Note 1) to spread out the leverage forces. The previous version was left as-is, in a cylindrical shape. The Retaining Nut is taller by 2mm (12mm earlier vs 14mm). An access hole is in the top of the nut, allowing for a wrench for removal. (See Note 2) Additions: A wrench has been designed for the removal of the Retaining Nut. This design should hold up as well for much longer than the previous design. I have no doubt however the previous spool holder would've held up much longer than previously anticipated. Also, yes I branded the wrench for the spool holder... get over it. (Notes) Note 1: In Image 6, you'll see a "blistering" of the outside walls towards the rear of the Version 1 of the spool rod. It's been found after the last 7 months, the non-reinforced rod started "giving" under the 1kg spools weight. The reinforcing material, along with the increased gyroid infill percentage in Version 2 should mitigate these issues, at least for a little longer. Note 2: After the nut has held the spool rod in place for over half a year, it was quite difficult to remove. This is due to either "creep" or "cold flow". I can't be 100% which one it is, but either would be the most likely issue. A wrench was designed in aid of tightening and removal.
