Elephant Coat Hanger
myminifactory
I scanned an Elephant Coat Hanger using 123D catch, mirroring the original one found at http://www.nadjacarlotti.com/pateres-en-porcelaine/, which unfortunately no longer exists. Since it's made of a fragile material, I wanted to ensure that I could recreate it accurately. The scan isn't perfect due to my scan not being close enough to the original object. However, I used Sculptris to add details and Meshmixer to create a hole behind the elephant so it can be attached to a wall with a bolt. It's fantastic to have multiple coat hangers in my house for handling my child's coats! In summary, here's the workflow: Scan an object using 123D catch Import only the .obj file into Meshmixer without mapping to avoid memory issues Isolate the elephant from the rest of the scene and add a hole behind it Import the isolated elephant into Sculptris and add any details needed Export the design again to Meshmixer and prepare it for 3D printing Print the design in PLA with support needed beyond 40 degrees.
