The "Elemental Design Team" is proud to present their innovative design solution for a GE jet engine bracket. After extensive collaboration and model development, they have successfully created a model with a 76% mass reduction while maintaining optimal results in all four loading conditions. The key to this success lies in the strategic usage of "notches" near interfaces 2 & 5, which effectively distribute stress concentrations. This design was simulated using a 0.08-inch fine mesh in SolidWorks, under boundary conditions where all interfaces except for interface 1 were fixed, and the bolt head surfaces of interfaces 2 to 5 were arrested vertically. The original model weighed 4.52 lbs, while the refined model weighs only 1.087 lbs. Loading condition results are as follows: 80.7 ksi (LC1), 46.8 ksi (LC2), 39.7 ksi (LC3), and 50.5 ksi (LC4). The minimum FOS is 1.37. A comprehensive report, including a 3D model in STEP & SolidWorks source file formats, is available for download at the provided link. The team emphasizes the importance of reviewing the attached report, which explains the significance of notches and provides a brief simulation report along with suggestions. They eagerly anticipate valuable feedback on their design.
