Elektra Natchios, most commonly referred to as simply Elektra, is a fictional character featured in various Marvel Comics publications. As a kunoichi – a skilled female ninja assassin of Greek heritage – she is known for wielding distinctive bladed sai as her go-to weapon. Conceived by renowned comic book creator Frank Miller, Elektra made her debut appearance in Daredevil #168 (January 1981). Her complex relationship with the superhero Daredevil stems from her tumultuous love life and her violent mercenary past, which creates tension between them. As one of Frank Miller's most beloved creations, subsequent writers' use of Elektra has been met with controversy due to Marvel's initial promise to only revive the character with Miller's explicit consent. In addition to her association with Daredevil, she also appears as a supporting character in Wolverine and other series, mini-series, and screen adaptations. The 2003 film Daredevil and its 2005 spinoff Elektra, starring Jennifer Garner as the titular character, brought Elektra to life on the big screen. Elektra ranked #22 on Comics Buyer's Guide's 100 Sexiest Women in Comics list. Miller originally based Elektra's appearance on Lisa Lyon, a renowned female bodybuilder.
