EleksMaker EleksLaser Air Assist 80mm Fan Mount I needed an air assist on my EleksMaker EleksLaser engraver but didn't have any 40mm fans available, so I decided to reuse one of the many 80mm fans I had. The 80mm fan is slower and quieter than 40mm fans while shifting a large volume of air. It also fits perfectly under the gantry without getting in the way. I may experiment with ducting but the fan seems to shift enough air that it's not an issue. Fitting I used two M5 bolts to fit the fan to the bracket, they self-tap slightly into the mount and fan. On my engraver there are two unused 3.5mm holes on the X carriage and I used two M3 bolts & nuts to hold it snugly under the X carriage. See the photos for guidance. Some engravers have a different carriage so this mount may not work for you if they do. Fan Power To power the 80mm fan, you need 12V. The 'motor' output of the EleksMana SE controller fitted to these engravers is 12V but controlled PWM at the same percentage as laser power. This is fine to drive the fan when the laser is at 100% but in practice it's not at 100% much of the time. Luckily, the 'motor' output is 'low side switched' which means that there is +12V available all the time and it's just the ground that is controlled with PWM. If you connect the positive feed of the fan to the right hand pin of the 'motor' output and the ground to the left hand pin of the 'servo' connector, you get 12V supply that switches on/off with the button on the controller. See the photos for guidance.
