My laser consistently shut down while I was using it, so I tracked the problem to the cloned Arduino Nano board. It turned out that this board was overheating rapidly. No matter what I did, I could only manage to get about 10-20 minutes of continuous use before the machine would freeze up entirely. But here's the weird part: even though the machine had stopped working, the laser itself would stubbornly stay on in one spot. I designed and built a protective cover for the Nano board and installed a powerful 12-volt fan that blows air directly over it to keep it cool.
