My 5.5w Elek's Laser is woefully undersized, so I ordered some brand-new rails from 2020 and I'm upgrading it to the max. I'm increasing its dimensions to a whopping 1000mm x 500mm. I might add end stops and possibly even a Z axis as well. I've totally overhauled the project's design. I'm dissatisfied with how the round wheels fit onto standard extrusion, so I'm switching out all the 2040 extrusion for v-rail instead. I've also designed parts that can be used with or without eccentric spacers. To reduce wasted space, I've altered the gantry shape and moved the X motor to the top of the X axis from underneath it. Next up is ordering some cable chain and designing in wire management. My ultimate goal is to make this laser big enough to etch/cut 36"x24". I'm hard at work on renderings of the assemblies, with a plan to upload them by the weekend. If you're based in the US, OpenBuilds is an awesome resource for getting v-rail - I'm not sure about availability outside the country, but I snagged fantastic deals on smaller components from usual suspects like AliExpress, Alibaba, and BangGood. Here's the universal parts print list: 1. Left side gantry (with or without eccentric) 2. Right side gantry (with or without eccentric) 3. Gantry front (with or without eccentric) 4. Gantry rear (with or without eccentric) 5. 23mm spacer (replace with X drag chain link if using chains) 6. Midasupp (these attach inside of the side stretchers and face outwards) 7. Six tension clips 8. Two OHl (optional Open Hardware Logo inserts, replace with your own design if you prefer) If you opt for end stops: 1. Left leg 2. Right leg 3. Left leg no endstop 4. Right leg no endstop 5. Endstop (this mounts to the X gantry on the side that's zero) 6. Drag chain mount (for left side, mirror if you want it on the right) 7. Drag chain foot (this mounts to the inside Y span and faces outwards) 8. Drag chain link (replaces 23mm spacer) If using the Eleks Mana board: 1. Mana CNC 2. Mana CNC lid 3. Power button If using the L7 laser board: 1. L7 board If upgrading your power supply, and you're using the same one I did (12v 6a from BangGood) with a hole spacing of 58mmx98mm, you can use my box as is (it uses an IBM clip in power connector and a matching power switch and two 40mm fans): 1. Power supply box 2. Power supply lid You'll also need a bunch of M5 and M3 bolts and hardware - the size and number vary depending on which options you choose, but: 12 x 24mm V wheels A laser module (hole spacing may change if you're not using the same one I am... F360 file included to modify the X gantry front if it's different, or if you want to attach a Z axis) A controller board - I've included mounts for the L7 Eleks board and the Eleks Mana CNC 3-axis board. If using eccentrics: 12 x 6mm spacers 12 x 6mm eccentric spacers (M5, 7mm diameter) I'll be building a needle foam cutter mod soon, which will include my own take on a Z axis.
