Elefant Ferdinand Tank Parts 1/16 scale RC
thingiverse
I designed these 3D prints on FreeCad and Cura for my 1/16 RC tank build using measurement compilations from multiple sources including Gunpower #23 Ferdinand, Museum Ordnance Special #4 Elefant, and Spielberger's Heavy Jagdpanzer hard copy prints. I also used a few other book sources for reference. The base Elefant kit comes from Ludwig Hobby, which I purchased back in October 2010. It features an aluminum chassis and styrene superstructure that have been modified to meet my requirements. After years of work, I'm finally finishing this project. The commander cupola hatch and vision ports are not part of this print; you can get a panzer III version from Heng Long/asiatam. The prints include a cast cupola lift, front driver hatch flat sun guard, and tool box. The castle square center vent is slightly taller than necessary, so feel free to shorten its height if needed. Make sure to lay everything flat, especially the commander cupola lift. Print these parts at 0.1mm for optimal resolution of small components. Most prints are ready to go, but a few need minor scaling adjustments. For example, the rear convoy light requires printing at 12mm longest dimension, while the rear electric motor vent cover and driver/radio crew hatches should be scaled up by +5mm and +4mm in their longest dimensions, respectively. The main gun sighting curved hatch needs to be scaled down by -5mm in its longest dimension. To make these adjustments, use your 3D printer program's scaling feature. The other shorter dimensions will automatically follow suit and be appropriately scaled up or down. Most prints only take a few minutes to print, making it easy to make them bigger or smaller as needed. I recommend printing the rear electric motor vent and castle rear radio box with their largest flat side facing downwards. You'll also need to print four 'front track guides' and four 'rear track guides,' which go underneath the track guards. A new .stl file for the Elefant main gun travel lock is now available. While it's not particularly pretty, I just wanted a base model that you can modify to get it looking good. This part will need to be installed in the 'down' position, hanging over the front of the tank. I'm using Open Panzer TCB for control and Benedini mini for sound in my build. You can see my progress at https://www.rctankwarfare.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=5988 and http://openpanzer.org/forum/index.php?topic=143.0. One of the best all-around plastic glues is Devcon plastic welder, which works great for bonding ABS to polystyrene.
