Electronics (Arduino Mega + RAMPS) Case for M Prime One

thingiverse

This protective case for the M Prime One printer is designed to safeguard its electronics. The case consists of two parts that can be joined together with four M3 nuts and bolts. A hole on the right accommodates the bundle of cables emerging from the printer head, while three smaller holes above cater to the Y-motor, Y-endstop, and extruder motor cables. One hole at the back is reserved for the X-motor and endstop cable, another for the computer connection, and a final one allows for securing a DC plug. Cover 1 can be secured in either complete or split mode; the latter variant is designed to minimize support structure requirements and facilitates gluing together the two parts. For optimal print settings, it's crucial to note that supports should be applied throughout the buildplate, not just where necessary, and the lines should be set instead of a grid pattern. This reduces the likelihood of having to remove excess material later on. To assemble the protective case, start by removing the electronics boards from their supports. Next, position Cover 2 in place, taking advantage of the two slits designed for securing the arduino supports. Place the arduino board at the bottom first, then gently bend the top part of the support to secure it onto the top of the board. The next step involves positioning all cables correctly while trying to coax Cover 1 into "hugging" all the electronics. This requires some effort and patience, as the cover is quite pliable but not overly so. To finalize assembly, insert one M3 nut into each of the four hexagonal holes located on the "Cover 2" side. Finally, screw in the four M3 bolts to secure everything in place. Although the design has its flaws, it serves its purpose for now. Areas for improvement include adding clipping indents to the edges where they join and ensuring easier placement and removal of the parts. Thicker walls might also enhance the overall structural integrity, as well as incorporating reinforcement at the points where the walls meet. The designer hopes that users find this design aesthetically pleasing and useful in protecting their M Prime One printer's electronics.
