Electrical loads draw current from the source and in most cases when this load is fault they tends to draw higher current more than their rated current , Joules law of heat makes its clear that this current flowing in a conductor has a greater tendency of heat. Combustion theory says that if there is fuel, heat and oxygen combustion could take place. The conductor insulator will now act as the fuel because its made from petrochemicals, heat in the wire as a result of higher current and oxygen in the atmosphere will lead to fire explosion. In order to prevent this occurence engineers develop fuse and little device that stop/cut off the supply of current when the load tends to draw a higher current more than its rated capacity
