I design innovative engine concepts for various tournaments, including the Shell Eco-Marathon, which demands efficient performance. Our Honda GX35cc engine serves as a foundation, and this year I sought to introduce fresh elements into its design by integrating a CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) mechanism. This type of transmission is well-suited for compact vehicles. The brushless motor upgrade further enhances the starter's capabilities. I employ computer-aided design tools like SolidWorks to conceptualize complete engine designs. Three-dimensional scanners aid in crafting precise digital replicas of engines, ensuring accurate analysis and iteration. I fabricated test pieces using 3D printing, specifically focusing on orange gear production from ABS plastic, thereby verifying CVT mechanism functionality while simultaneously testing the gearing ratio. To produce a precise brushless electric motor shaft, CNC lathes are utilized. A 4-axis milling machine then refines the shaft's flat surfaces, guaranteeing accuracy and smoothness. Additionally, I utilize CNC Water jet cutting machines to cut flat components from aluminum and stainless steel sheet metals.
