In the pursuit of innovation, we tapped into the reliability of the Honda GX35cc engine for our Shell Eco Car Marathon tournaments. This year's design revolved around introducing a revolutionary new component - CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) technology - paired with an advanced brushless motor replacing traditional starter motors. By utilizing SolidWorks for the overall design, I took the initial steps in translating our eco-friendly vision into a concrete blueprint. Utilizing a 3D scanner, I crafted digital replicas of every crucial detail within the engine's anatomy, paving the way for meticulous refinements. With an ABS plastic prototype in place, particularly an orange gear that simulated real-world operations under a precisely tuned gearing ratio - all part and parcel of the painstaking development process aimed at perfection. In crafting the intricate shafts to power the high-tech brushless motor, CNC precision machining played an pivotal role with four-axis CNC lathes handling smooth, perfectly levelled surfaces. Furthermore, we pushed sheet metal capabilities by manufacturing most other components out of light gauge aluminum and highly durable stainless steel utilizing an automated 4th axis waterjet cutter.
