DIY project of my outboard motor for kayak use. This project is designed to be a fun and challenging DIY endeavor, using readily available materials. The project's main component is the head of a damaged radial engine, which has been modified to fit inside an old 18v battery drill. This unique combination provides a compact and efficient way to power your outboard motor. The battery used in this project is a 12V 65amp unit, which is sufficient for most kayaking needs. The propeller that mounts on this model can be found here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4511544 EDITION A VERSION 2.0 (13/07/2020) The motor has been replaced with an electric motor of automotive fan, which provides more revolutions and increased power. The shaft shank has been shortened by 20cm to improve balance and reduce vibration. The axis has also been shortened by 20cm for the same reasons. A new propeller has been added, which is a 3-blade aluminum unit that provides much more power than the original 3D printed propeller. This change has greatly improved the overall performance of the motor. EDITION TO VERSION 2.1 NEW CONTROL COMMAND (17/07/2020) After using the new setup for several sailing trips, the control knob failed. A relay with a switch was installed to replace it, allowing only forward gear and an all-or-nothing gas setting. This change has been beneficial, as it frees up both hands to steer the kayak with the paddle. New updates will be released soon, including a motor controller with triple switch (front, neutral, and rear) and a potentiometer that controls speed. These upgrades are expected to arrive from China within a month.
