Electric Mustang Drivetrain for 1965-1970 Ford Mustang/Falcon/Ranchero
grabcad
Greetings world! I crafted components for an electric vehicle transformation of a 1965 Ford Mustang. The motor and controller are UQM Powerphase Pro 100, while the belt housing/trans is a Ford 289/302 with either a 3 or 4-speed top loader. Unseen in the CAD model is the hydraulic throw-out bearing, a McLeod 1305. The most challenging aspect of this assembly was that you cannot axially load the motor shaft - putting force down the shaft when pressing the clutch is prohibited. I initially overlooked this fact, hence the separate bearing plate for the trans to motor adapter plate. If redoing from scratch, I'd combine these parts as one. The 3-part bushing comprises 4130 steel and Shore 85 polyurethane poured in place using 3D printed jigs (found in files). Despite efforts, a small axial misalignment persists; a solid bushing caused vibration and wear. This project is for educational purposes only - I'm not responsible for its application.
