Cort Musical Instruments took its first steps in 1960 as a piano importer under the leadership of Young Park's father. At that time, the company bore the name Soo Doh Piano. Over time, Soo Doh transformed from an importer of pianos into a manufacturer and sales division before eventually establishing itself as a guitar manufacturer in 1973. Initially, Soo Doh focused solely on supplying OEM components to other foreign companies with well-known brand names. As Cort Musical Instruments began to refine its skills in producing guitars far more effectively than pianos, it changed its name and started releasing its first branded guitars in 1982. In 1984, Cort initiated production of headless guitars featuring designs exclusively licensed from Ned Steinberger for both the Cort brand and other notable brands such as Hohner and Kramer. This innovation propelled the Cort name into the mainstream electric guitar market, drawing attention from prominent companies seeking contract manufacturers in Korea.
