Elder Scroll (Skyrim)
thingiverse
This is the Elder Scroll from Skyrim, meticulously recreated from scratch using precise measurements taken directly from the game asset. The model has been scaled to an impressive 30 inches in length, but for ease of printing without supports, it's been broken down into manageable segments that can be easily scaled larger on many printers. Conversely, it can also be reduced in size; I've successfully printed a mini-scroll at 16" long without compromising the structural integrity of the walls. In addition to the printed components, you'll require: * Two steel rods, measuring 21.6 cm (8.5 inches) in length and 2 mm in diameter * A wooden dowel, stretching 70 cm (27.5 inches) and boasting a diameter of 9.75 mm (3/8") * Real vellum or parchment, pergamenata, or other paper substitute, measuring 21 cm x 45 cm (8.25 by 17¾ inches) Be sure to adjust the sizes accordingly if you decide to scale the printed model up or down. Actual vellum (calf skin expertly prepared for writing) or parchment (other animal skins) can be quite pricey at calligraphy supply stores, but an inexpensive way to obtain real parchment is by purchasing a goat skin drum head of the correct diameter and then cutting it down to size. You might need to acquire pounce (which is relatively affordable) to prepare the surface. It's essential to note that drafting vellum and baking parchment are not suitable alternatives. To print the "pull bar" pieces (which facilitate the unrolling of the scroll from its case), I applied blue tape to the print bed, wiped it down with isopropyl alcohol, and printed both halves simultaneously, incorporating a brim. Printing slowly, with a minimum layer time of 10 seconds using "cool head lift," yielded excellent results despite the pieces being extremely tall with a tiny footprint.
