Motor Torpedo Boat PT-59, a PT-20-class vessel, was built by the Electric Launch Company in Bayonne, New Jersey, for the United States Navy. Originally laid down as Motor Boat Submarine Chaser PTC-27, she was reclassified as BPT-11 before being slated to be transferred to Britain under Lend-Lease arrangements. The transfer plans were subsequently cancelled, and PT-59 was instead commissioned as a US Navy vessel on 5 March 1942, having been launched on October 8, 1941.
