Elastic Tiller Extension

Elastic Tiller Extension

I have designed an adjustable tiller extension for my sailboat. To achieve flexibility, I utilized an elastic hot glue stick as a key component. This stick is securely fastened by a nut that is threaded into the cheapest telescope mop handle available in Poland. The diameter of the hot glue stick measures 11.3mm. The compatible thread on my mop handle is conical in shape, with a base diameter of 18mm and a height of 26mm. The end diameter is slightly smaller, featuring sides with an angle of approximately 3.85 degrees. The pitch is set at 4mm, while the groove measures 2mm by 1mm in rectangular dimensions. If you have a mop handle with a different thread configuration, please don't hesitate to ask for assistance in the comments section below. I plan on creating and uploading additional designs to cater to various needs. To print this model effectively, I recommend using PETG material. A higher infill percentage is suggested to ensure added durability. For optimal results, consider printing two sets: one for practical use on your sailboat and another for testing purposes. This will allow you to gauge the tiller's resistance to force and determine its overall reliability.
