Elaborately Dressed Female Statue at The British Museum, London
myminifactory
Many statues of lavishly attired women remain intact from the Hellenistic period. Often they were erected to pay tribute to affluent women who had funded construction projects, or they might have served as grave markers in cemeteries. Some may even have been likenesses of priestesses or represented goddesses or figures from mythology. The shoulders and head were crafted separately from a single piece of marble, now irretrievably lost. This object is part of "Scan The World". Scan the World is a non-profit initiative spearheaded by MyMiniFactory, through which we are creating a digital repository of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks, and landmarks from across the globe for public access at no cost.
