The Retablo de las lamentaciones, or Llanto sobre Cristo muerto, located in the sala capitular of Oviedo's Catedral, was part of Juan de Candamo and Catalina González de Nava's funeral monument. In this scene, the Virgin is shown holding the dead body of Christ on her lap, accompanied by Saint Mary, Saint John, Joseph of Arimathea, and Nicodemus. On either side of Christ's cross, four angels hold up the instruments of Passion.
