El Capitan (1:10,000 Scale)
sketchfab
The granite monolith of El Capitan rises dramatically 3,000 feet from base to summit along its tallest face. This stunning rock formation in Yosemite National Park has captivated the hearts of adventure-seekers and thrill enthusiasts worldwide as one of their favorite challenges for scaling new heights and taking the leap into thin air. El Capitan translates to "The Captain" or "The Chief," a name bestowed upon it by the Mariposa Battalion during their 1851 expedition in the valley. Originally, the rock formation was known by a Native American name that roughly translates to "To-to-kon oo-lah" or "To-tock-ah-noo-lah" in the Miwok language. However, its meaning remains unclear, leaving it open to interpretation whether it referred to a specific tribal chief or simply signified "the chief" or "rock chief."
