Ekamukhalinga, an ancient sculpture from Bihar's Gaya, proudly stands in the Musee Guimet, Paris, France. Dating back to the 7th century CE, it exemplifies Siva's profound power as a creator. The primary form of worship for this powerful deity is through his linga or phallus representation, symbolizing the raw energy of creation from its earliest beginnings. As far back as the 1st century BCE in Aghapur and Gudimallam, Siva was first depicted in his linga form. During this period, a unique style emerged where Siva's anthropomorphic figure was positioned addorsed with the shaft of the linga. This early representation showcased Siva's majestic head, adorned with a distinct third eye, rising from the shaft of the linga. Siva's face is distinguished by a well-groomed moustache and a necklace made from rudraksa stones, a treasure revered in Hindu tradition for its connection to the sacred fruit tree. His long, uncut hair is styled as a yogic ascetic would wear it, piled high on his head, with loose locks falling behind his ears.
