Eight studs and the vacuum bag
grabcad
This design is for NASA's logistics reduction program via direct weight reduction and cargo transfer bag (CTB). The flexible plastic bag has an airtight hatch for filling using two valves, possibly a combination valve, connected to a vacuum pump or the atmosphere. Tubular passages are included for mounting studs, which don't connect to the interior cavity. Recesses and protrusions on the bag's surface match the experiment layout. The bag is filled with supplies like clothes, food, or mixed fillers, preferably claimed by the crew post-experiment but can be opened and re-evacuated if needed. It's part of luggage and distinguished only by the stud passages. Standard 10mm (0.4 inches) threaded studs, cap nuts, and large washers are used for securing the bag to rails and connecting the mounting plate to the bag. Strength calculations assume a strength similar to XPS foam (45 kg/m3), maintaining acceptable levels of strength and deformation. The low-density polyethylene bag (2mm) weighs approximately 3.5kg (volume 29.5l); studs, nuts, and washers add 1.5kg. The bag is on board, and only rented for securing the experiment. The net structure consists of eight studs, each about 9 inches long with a 0.4-inch diameter, 16 cap nuts, and 16 washers, weighing roughly 3lb (1.5kg).
