Eight Position Optical Position Sensor
thingiverse
This assembly utilizes optical transistors to provide precise angle and direction data for a MCU. After several revisions, the current design seems promising but awaits arrival of ordered optical components. An update will follow upon completion of the prototype. A video demonstration is available here. A user suggestion led to the creation of a 3-bit binary version, yet to be tested; an update will be provided afterward. The design accommodates 608ZZ bearings with matching shutter and shaft lips for accurate rotation detection. With eight sensor positions, positional accuracy of approximately 22.5 degrees can be achieved depending on plastic tolerances and optocoupler sensitivity. Optimal printing material is opaque to the employed LED color. This design addresses the suggestion from 7Crook in Solenoid Motor comments, enabling V8 designs and others. An update includes binary version requirements: two cases, binary shutter, and spacer; assemble with a 3mm machine screw through top case hole and spacer.
