Eiffel Tower - 5 Part
thingiverse
To print the Eiffel Tower model at a large scale, I began with four-part files (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:32825). Except for the bottom part, all pieces could be printed at 350% on my Replicator 2. To facilitate printing the bottom piece, I used Blender (http://www.blender.org/) to cut it in half. The railing prints at a .1 mm layer height even at this enlarged size. RepG frequently crashed while slicing the bottom halves, so MiracleGrue was used for those pieces instead. To prevent difficulties with the main arch, I printed the bottom halves upside down. Print times were as follows: EiffelTowercut4_fixed @ .1mm (5 hours), EiffelTowercut3.2_fixed @ .1mm (7 hours), and EiffelTowerCut2_fixed @ .1mm (21 hours). The bottom piece was printed twice due to the halving, taking 5 hours each print. The total build time was 43 hours, with a total weight of 338 grams, a height of 41.5cm / 16.3 inches, and a successful completion using an alternative slicing program.
