Egyptian-style worshipper

Egyptian-style statues of worshippers were erected in sanctuaries dating back to around 600 BC, some on a grand scale. Initially seen as proof of Egyptian political control, they are now understood to showcase Phoenician cultural and spiritual influences that permeated Cyprus. Terracotta models exist, yet the original prototypes may have been crafted from wood or other ephemeral materials. The head would resemble the body of a kouros, similar to the Egyptian worshipper or priest in The Metropolitan Museum of Art's Cesnola Collection, New York. From Dali, Sanctuary of Apollo-Reshef
