Bust of Egon Schiele at Schiele Platz in Neulengbach is an exact replica of the artist's self-portrait from 1917. The Atelier Venturi Arte created a total of 300 identical busts in 1980. Neulengbach holds a special place in Egon Schiele's life. He expressed his desire to stay there forever in a letter to his uncle. Unfortunately, his visit turned into a nightmare when he was arrested and thrown into a cellar cell in the district court in Neulengbach for 21 days. This incident is known as the "Neulengbach Affair," where Schiele was falsely accused of kidnapping, abuse, and presenting indecent drawings. He was sentenced to 21 days in prison but ultimately only served time because he displayed a nude drawing in his apartment building. In 1963, the cellar cell was discovered at the district court, and it can be visited today.
