EGO 56V Battery Mount for E-Bike or Other Project
thingiverse
This is a versatile battery mount designed to accept EGO 56V tool batteries, allowing you to harness their power for an e-bike or other project. If you don't have access to a dead EGO tool to salvage the battery mount, this solution can be a lifesaver. Broken tools with these mounts can sometimes be found on eBay, but they're often pricey. The provided files give you flexibility in how you want to use this mount. You can opt for a basic version that simply attaches to a pack or bungee down to a rack, providing a snug fit for the battery. Alternatively, you can choose the "thick" mount version, which features a locking tab lever to secure the battery in place while riding. This extra base thickness ensures clearance for the locking tab to be released after the ride, making it easier to remove the battery. The other essential components include a locking tab and wire clamp. If you plan to mount the device permanently or removably to a rack, the extra base piece is a good choice. However, if you're certain it will remain on the bike, you can print the thick version from the start. To complete this project, you'll need some thin stainless steel for the battery contacts and optional locking tab lever. A stainless steel spatula is an excellent source material, which I used to cut pieces to size with a 4 1/2" grinder and de-burr with a file. Keep in mind that this is not a perfect part, but it gets the job done with some assembly time and hand fitting required. You may need to trim parts like the battery contacts by trial and error. I'm considering further improvements, including adding a snap-on cover to protect against dirt and water when not in use. The battery fits snugly, and the tab effectively keeps it from sliding off. However, you can explore other ideas for securing the mount and locking the battery in place based on your intended mounting method. The attached mount and extra base provide flexibility for customization, leaving the rest up to your creativity. Cautions: 1. Be aware of polarity: the + and - contacts on the battery are located at the ends. When connecting wires, ensure you connect red to + and black to -. 2. Exercise extreme caution when working with wires to avoid short-circuiting the battery. It's best to make connections and connectors while the mount is detached from the battery. 3. I'm unsure about the durability of these batteries in e-bike applications. If it damages your battery, that's just the way it goes. 4. Handle stainless steel parts with care, as they can be very sharp. 5. This mount may not be suitable for rough or bumpy terrain use.
