EggTracker rocket tracker
thingiverse
A handheld rocket tracker for an eggtracker (from eggtimerrocketry.com, with upgraded antenna option) with bluetooth module, using 2x 18650 batteries. The sled is sized to hold a Pixel 4XL with thin case, so you may need to resize or customize the footer to fit your particular phone and/or glue it in a different spot. Recommend PETG and a .4mm nozzle. PLA could work if you use a lighter color and try to keep it out of the hot car and sun as much as possible. Hardware needed: Eggtracker and bluetooth module 2S 18650 battery holder 10-32 1in wing bolt (Home Depot) 10-32 nut 3mm x 25mm bolt and nylon lock nut four 3mm short screws (optional, to mount PCB) 7 pan head wood or sheet metal screws, sorry I don't know the size as I had them "lying around". They're about 7/16 long and a bit over 1/8" wide. A "mini" square toggle switch (weather resistant a good idea) 5mm LED for power indicator Appropriate resistor (depends on your LED, but 220ohm worked for my 20ma LED) 915Mhz antenna Your phone CA glue and screw (from inside) the handle to the base. Small drop of CA glue on each side and slide the 10-32 nut in and allow to dry. Put the 3mm bolt through the rear clip and fasten with the nylon locknut. Head of bolt will probably have to go on the switch side for clearance. Wire and solder everything up (I chose to solder and heat shrink everything for reliability). Hopefully the pic will help. Positive goes through the switch and on to eggfinder and then LED. Negative the same except no switch. Resistor goes in series with one leg of the LED (doesn't matter which). Remember to feed wires through switch and handle holes before soldering them, and leave enough wire so that the battery holder can clear the handle to change the batteries. If you're wondering, long leg of the LED is +, - has a flat side to the plastic. Snap in the switch that you've already wired (terminals should be towards the outside to allow for case support post clearance), CA glue in the power LED. Attach eggtracker. Screw it in if you like and if the holes line up for you. If they don't you can tack the feet down with hot glue or double sided foam tape. Wire up to bluetooth module, find a spot it fits on the right side of the case (diagonal maybe) and seat it with double sided foam tape. Install batteries, test. Install battery compartment lid with 2 more screws. Install box lid (tolerance is very tight) and 3 more screws from underneath. Tighten down the rear clip over the top of your phone. CA glue the footer in an appropriate spot for your phone. A piece of masking tape on top of the rear clip (or beneath the phone) with your frequency written on it is suggested. Track rockets!
