Egg Timer Wind-up Gear Replacement

Egg Timer Wind-up Gear Replacement

thingiverse

One of the gears in our mechanical egg-shaped kitchen timer snapped - the one linking the mechanism to the outer casing. Naturally, I crafted a replacement part. I'm aware the entire timer costs mere dollars, but it would've been simpler just to purchase a new one instead of fiddling with calipers and minuscule involute gears (incidentally, the gear features 21 teeth and its module measures 0.6mm, along with a pressure angle of 20 degrees - plugging these values into FreeCAD's InvoluteGear wizard yields an exact replica). Once you possess a 3D printer, it's no longer about simplicity or ease; every broken item becomes a challenge, a call to action, and an inspiration to don noise-cancelling headphones and retreat into the realm of sketches, extrusions, and constraints. The hammer hangs poised, waiting for its cue.
