Egg-ceptional Habitats
thingiverse
Students engage in an interactive learning lesson focused on constructing well-supported arguments about how living organisms, including humans, adapt their environments to meet their needs. The lesson is guided by a power point presentation and reinforced with a dynamic pdf worksheet. Next, students participate in a visual matching activity where they match photographs of birds to corresponding 3D printed eggs, all designed at realistic scales. The selection includes a diverse range of bird species such as hummingbirds, robins, and ostriches. Finally, using materials provided by the facilitator, students work individually or in groups to design and build a suitable shelter for their chosen egg model. Initially, they may be restricted to selecting only one type of egg (hummingbird, robin, or ostrich) but can later have access to all three options if desired by the teacher.
