Effector mounted blower duct for Delta 3KU
thingiverse
Most designs for part cooling fans and blowers on Delta printers tend to reduce the available print area due to collisions with printer columns or effector rods during printing. The intent of this design was to avoid this issue by "clinging" it around the effector plate and careful consideration of all critical head positions to prevent collision. Another design consideration was maximizing air flow by thickening the duct in one dimension where the other dimension is constrained. This will print fast thanks to being done in vase mode, ensuring the part is hollow. It's also very light. Please let me know if you have any suggestions or comments. Some absolutely critical things: Print the main part (the duct) in Vase mode - configure this in your slicer (or you'll end up with a useless filled duct). Set the number of layers for the bottom to 0 in your slicer or "no bottom" depending on the slicer. Print the main part vertically (as the STL shows) with no supports (or you may end up with impossible-to-remove supports inside the duct). Not so critical but advisable: Print with your existing cooling fan turned on (the inclinations are not overly steep, but this will help with surface finishing). PLA or ABS - it doesn't matter - I printed mine in PLA. Assembly: Attach the snap fit bracket to the main part using 2 mm conical head wood/metal screws or superglue (but pay attention to the position if you're gluing - it needs to align with the holes). Install the blower in the duct (use two 20mm long M3 screws and nuts). Fit the assembly as tall as possible so it clears the bed by ~2mm when the nozzle touches the bed. Depending on the position of your nozzle relative to the effector plate, you may need to lower the hotend so that the base of the duct (the semi-circular piece that directs air around the part) won't touch the bed. If this is too much work for you, I've uploaded another version that will provide you with a lot more clearance (but less air direction). Wrap the bracket with a tie-wrap around the extruder heatsink (don't worry about heating the plastic - that area is cold). (Look at the picture.) Optional design bonus: Use the square holes on the top with tie-wraps to straighten the extruder wiring and filament tube. Here's the blower I used (you'll need one with exactly the same size): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015S5XFJE/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Print Settings: Printer: Delta 3KU Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: Not critical Infill: NOOOO Notes: VASE MODE ONLY
