Edward William Lane
myminifactory
Edward William Lane, a renowned Arabic scholar, gained lasting recognition for his meticulous translation of the Arabian Nights between 1832 and 1841. His curiosity about Egyptian culture led him to settle in Cairo twice, where he immersed himself in its customs and way of life from 1825 until 1835. This sculpture, carefully crafted by Lane's brother upon his return to England, depicts Edward William Lane adorned in the traditional Turkish attire worn by affluent Egyptians under Ottoman rule. The artwork was created by Richard James Lane, a highly accomplished English Victorian engraver and lithographer with an impressive body of work.
