Edward Price (1836-1909) passed away in Thermalito, California's northern region at 73 years old. He spent his final days working at the Odd Fellows Home there. As reported by the Santa Cruz Surf, "Mr. Price was a pioneering resident of Santa Cruz who left lasting memories among its earliest inhabitants as cook at the Cowell lime works during the fifties. Following that, he enlisted in the military and served throughout the civil war with distinction. Returning to Santa Cruz after the war's conclusion, Edward spent several years working as a bookkeeper for R.C. Kirby. He also held the position of Deputy County treasurer for an extended period. Edward Price was highly respected for his exceptional accounting skills, meticulous record-keeping, and impeccable gentlemanly conduct, no matter what profession he pursued. His kindness earned him widespread recognition among the town's elder citizens."
