Edward Newgate, more commonly known as "Whitebeard," dominated the seas as captain of the Whitebeard Pirates and earned widespread respect as the "Strongest Man in the World" and the "Man Closest to One Piece" after Gol D. Roger's shocking demise. Before leading his own crew, he was a key member of the legendary Rocks Pirates and later became one of the Four Emperors ruling over the New World, a position he held until his heroic sacrifice in the Battle of Marineford. In his prime, Whitebeard rivaled Gol D. Roger, and following Roger's passing, he earned global recognition as the strongest man alive, a title solidified by holding the highest active bounty while living and the second-highest bounty ever awarded to a pirate in history.
