This is Edge X, a compact, low-cost 3D printer with some exciting new features on the way to Instructables soon. Update - May 1st 2017: Don't worry, this project hasn't been abandoned; it's actually gaining momentum. I've updated the .svg file and main image, and the Edge X line will now run alongside the Edge V line. Expect to see a new version of Edge V4 sometime in the summer if all goes according to plan. Right now, my focus is on making this printer stand out from the rest. One key feature that's worth mentioning is its smooth linear rods on both sides of the z-axis. Trust me, it's well worth the extra $4 - I know because I've been there too. Get ready to see five Edge X printers (plus one 3.0 model) at the Vancouver Maker Faire on June 10th and 11th at the Edge 3D Printers booth. The new features include: * Auto-levelling for easy setup * A newer MK8 extruder with a spring/lever design that makes filament swapping a breeze * A larger build area despite its compact footprint * No z-wobble (I'm still working on finding the perfect bolt method, but I'll get there eventually) * And let's not forget about aesthetics - this printer looks sleek and modern Here's what you'll need to build your own Edge X: * 4 NEMA 17 motors for smooth movement * 3 LMH8LUU flange bearings to keep things running smoothly * 10 SHF8 linear rod flanges for added stability * 4 pieces of 100mm 2020 aluminum extrusion for the frame * 25 M5 T-nuts to secure everything in place * 1 normally open inductance switch (LJ12A3-4-Z/BX) for safety and efficiency * 4 A4988 stepper drivers to power your motors * 1 RAMPS 1.4 board to connect it all together * 1 Arduino Mega 2560 clone or authentic - the choice is yours * 2 limit switches to ensure smooth movement * 2M GT2 belt for added stability * 2 x 20-tooth GT2 pulleys for efficient movement * 1 DC power jack (5.5 x 2.1mm) for easy connectivity * 4 x 625zz bearings for a silky-smooth ride * And finally, 1 male USB B to female USB B panel mount for easy access
