Edge Masking Tool

Edge Masking Tool

This is a tool that can be used to create perfectly aligned masking tape edges. It allows you to lay down 6mm fine-line masking tape exactly 1 or 2 inches from the edge of some object. In my case I used it to mask off a "frit" for a windshield. Note: The windshield in this case was a front windshield for a Factory Five Type 65 Daytona Coupe. The manufacturer calls for a 1" frit on the sides and top with a 2" frit on the bottom. Because the frit changes sizes, you need a smooth transition between the two. I've included a template that can be printed and applied to the sides of the windows to help you mask this portion. Just use the masking tool until you reach the 1" edge, pull the masking tool up, finish the curve by hand, then place the masking tool back down using the 2" guide to finish it up.
