A sleek and streamlined design for seamlessly integrating an Amazon Echo Dot Gen 2 into any outlet. Exceptionally lightweight: crafted from just 25 grams of precision-cut plastic! Design Objectives: A design that flawlessly mirrors the Dot's aesthetic, concealing all cables, eliminating unsightly face clips that obstruct the light ring, and avoiding speaker obstructions. A single, minimalist piece, printed without support, achieves this goal. Design Process: Body: Upon measuring the Echo Dot, I discovered its diameter tapers, allowing for a snug fit within an ultra-compact ring, unaffected by printer tolerances. This ingenious design also preserves sound quality by not obstructing it in any way. Power Adapter: Initially, I considered creating a parametric design for the DC adapter to accommodate both horizontal and vertical orientations. However, I realized that designing it as one piece would suffice, ensuring a secure fit in either configuration (tolerance considerations are crucial here; if the adapter becomes too tight, you can scale the entire design by 0.5-1%). The Dot's ring is designed to adapt to minor changes in size. USB Cable: The Echo Dot's bulky USB cable poses assembly challenges. To address this, I incorporated a cut-out for the cable and opted for a shorter, 90-degree USB cable (a pair of these cables, Left and Right handed, works well here, but one is more effective than the other). While there are likely even better alternatives available, I will update my instructions once I find a superior option. Potential Drawbacks: One notable limitation: the Dot isn't supported in the back, so be cautious not to dislodge it. To mitigate this risk, you might consider adding a support piece to the design. Furthermore, I couldn't devise a solution that accommodates outlets of varying heights without resorting to parametric design or using screws, which would undermine the convenience of easy plug-and-play functionality.
