Eccentric Sphere Gears

Eccentric Sphere Gears

thingiverse

This intricate sphere comprises off-centered gear components, resulting in a fragmented surface when rotated. It's an enhanced version of Emmett's cube gears (http://thingiverse.com/thing:6073), boasting improvements to the script and caching for quicker rendering. Despite potentially slow initial rendering (up to 10 minutes), cache implementation reduces wait time. The render also prevents OpenCSG from appearing like an earthquake-stricken clown's painting. Animation works, albeit at a few FPS. A significant feature is the addition of a module that allows cutting gears out of any STL by simply importing it. Assembly requires numbering the gears as they are printed and placing them using OpenCSG renderings or by identifying colors (grey for 1 & 2, red for 3 & 4, green for 5 & 6, blue for 7 & 8). Fastening can be done with M3 screws inserted into the center block's plastic. Use 16-18mm screws for large gears and 18-20mm for smaller ones.
