Eccentric Assembly

Eccentric Assembly

grabcad

An eccentric, or eccentric sheave, refers to a circular disc rigidly connected to a rotating shaft with its center displaced from the latter's center (hence the term "eccentric," meaning off-center). Commonly found in steam engines, it converts rotation into linear reciprocating motion for applications such as driving sliding valves or pump rams. This conversion is facilitated by an eccentric groove at the disc's edge that accommodates a circular collar (the eccentric strap), which in turn supports an eccentric rod. The rod's other end enables the delivery of the necessary reciprocating movement.
