Ecce Homo
myminifactory
In a powerful collaboration between Amnesty International, celebrated artist Mark Wallinger and St. Paul's Cathedral, this thought-provoking sculpture was crafted to shed light on the plight of individuals facing torture, execution or imprisonment due to their political, religious, sexual or other convictions. Mark Wallinger's 'Ecce Homo', the inaugural sculpture to occupy the fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square, presents Christ as strikingly human and vulnerable. He stands alone, hands bound behind his back, poised to be judged by a hostile crowd. As the world's largest human rights organization, Amnesty International tirelessly advocates on behalf of individuals facing injustice, violence and abuse in the most remote corners of the globe. With over 7 million supporters worldwide, Amnesty International is a dynamic movement of ordinary people working to safeguard those whose rights are denied justice, fairness, freedom and truth. Kate Allen, director of Amnesty, stated: "The story of Christ - arrested, tortured and executed for peacefully expressing his opinions and challenging the authorities of his time - continues to resonate across the world today. The sculpture is a poignant representation of the type of cases that we at Amnesty still actively work on today - the oppressed individual suffering solely due to their beliefs."
