Easy To Read Dice
thingiverse
My name is Charlie Burgan, and I'm 13 years old. I've been learning how to design and print 3D models using Tinkercad. A teacher leading a lesson with 3D printed dice would be pretty cool from a student's point of view. So, I decided to create an easy-to-read die for the MakerEd Project. This die features six sides with full numbers instead of dots. Print Settings Printer: Micro 3D Rafts: Yes Supports: No Notes: If you don't use raft, the side touching the print bed will be weighted so it'll almost always land on a certain number. You have to use raft to prevent this. How I Designed This I used Tinkercad for this project. First, I started with a basic cube. I set numbers 1-6 on the plate. I raised them to a height of 16mm because that was the height of the cube. Then, I placed each number in the middle of each side of the die. After that, I made them all into holes. Next, I clicked group to make it solid, and then I was finished. Or so I thought.... I ended up having to scale it up to 20mm to make it easy to read. That's also why I used numbers instead of holes; it would be easier to read. Project: Teamwork and Cooperation Objectives Students will learn how to work together using these dice to play teamwork-styled board-games. They'll learn how to cooperate with each other. Audiences 1st through 3rd-grade students would do this project. It's essential for kids to learn how to work together and cooperate early on. This is a great life skill to have, and it's used in many careers. Preparation The only materials needed are teamwork board-games. No other materials are unnecessary. Steps! 1: Find a teamwork board-game set for ages 7-10. The game must use dice. 2: Replace the regular dice with the new easy-to-read dice. 3: Explain how to play the game to the students. 4: While they're playing, walk around to see if everything is going smoothly. 5: Watch and see the smile on their faces as they learn how to work together. Results At the end of this project, students should have learned how to cooperate with each other. They'll also have learned how to work together to achieve a common goal. These skills are necessary for a good career later in life.
