This is a remix of my earlier published Spool Holder, which was already a remix of IsmaelPR1's Easy Spool Holder as found here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1768975

In the previous version, AGremlin commented that at the maximum z height of the MK3, the extruder would hit the spool holder and he was right. It did not bother me then, considering the low chance of printing at maximum z height, however the design could be improved; what I did just now.

So with this remix, there is ample of space between the extruder and the spool holder and it should not cause any issues. And yes..., indeed changed the marking from MK2 to MK3.

For the rest, no change compared to the previous remix; the rods can still be printed horizontally as well as the filament guide. The filament guide can be attached to the right spool holder support element by an M3 bolt (you use a spare bolt from the Prusa spare parts kit) or by gluing it (if printed in ABS it can be glued by Acetone). I added two 45 degree recesses in the filament guide; you can either choose to leave the filament guide in one piece, or quickly make a small cut with a saw or sharp knife such that you can just insert the filament through the saw cut.

I ran some cables on backside of the top of the frame for my lights so there are recesses in the main spool support elements, such that cables can be guided between these holders and the frame.

Also the original spool rolers from the original post (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1768975) are included in this post. You will need 4 x 608 bearings.

There is also a "spool lock" available to keep very light (sample) spools in place on the Easy Spool Holder. For details see here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2663667

Kudos to IsmaelPR1 for designing and sharing this great design.

Print instructions

Category: 3D Printer Accessories Print Settings

Printer Brand: Prusa

Printer: i3 MK3

Rafts: No

Supports: No

Resolution: 0.15 or 0.20

Infill: 30-40%

Notes:

Suggest to use 3 perimeters.

I have printed my version in Prusa orange ABS, but for sure PLA (if outside an enclosure) and PETG will do perfectly as well.
