Easy Source Face Shield

Easy Source Face Shield

I wanted to help out with the PPE shortage issue by printing face shields, but quickly had a hard time sourcing plastic sheets & elastic bands. So, I pivoted my energy to address that in case others were seeing the same thing. The outcome is an easy source face shield. I took ideas from many other great projects and rolled them into something that is good in a pinch. The intent is not to replace the off the shelf or great hacker face shields that exist out there, this design is mean to be disposable and “better than nothing.” The design is 2 to 3 parts, depending on usage. There are two models, depending on what you can get your hands on. The main 3D printed part, like others holds the clear plastic shield in place. The first model is for overhead projector sheets which you cut the corners and punch with a 3 hole punch. The second uses 2 ply plastic protector sheet from Office Depot which already has the 3 holes punched, it also has a spreader to keep the form. The forehead area can either take foam, but also has simple clips to hold on paper towel instead if/when foam is unavailable. Both are held on the head by either just rubber bands or the addition of a plastic strap at the back to make it more comfortable for longer wear. I have been printing both of these with .3mm and 10% infill and it takes well under an hour so far pushing my Prusa speed to 170%.
