Easy Fatshark Power Button Mod
thingiverse
Backstory: It's annoying that most models of Fatshark FPV goggles don't have power buttons. There are mods out there to add one, but all that I have seen require cutting and soldering directly to the circuit board (and voiding the warranty). This one doesn't! About This: There are three parts to this. First is the module bay door, which is a 3d scan of the original. The stl files for both the full door and the door with a 12mm hole for a power button are posted. Alternatively you could just drill a hole in the original door from your googles. But again, voiding the warranty. I have printed in both PLA and resin - obviously the resin turns out nicer but the FDM works as well. I generally do some light sanding, spray paint, then put a clear coat over top to match it as close as possible to the goggles. The second part is the switch. I used one with a 12mm diameter - this fits nicely into the goggle bay and is still easy enough to find with the goggles on your head. Make sure that it is a latching switch, otherwise you'll have to hold the button while you fly! I also like the buttons that are slightly extruded while off/unlatched. That feature makes it easier to find as well as press. Wire the switch based on the wiring diagram that is (hopefully) provided by the manufacturer. The third part is the connector. It is an 8 pin Molex Picoblade plug with 1.25mm spacing. I was only able to find the female end for a surface mount connection, so it requires some careful soldering to get the wires connected. See the pictures for how to wire it. I like to put some hot glue over the connections after they are soldered to serve as a strain relief. Installation: Remove the stock door on your goggles. I find it easiest to flip the goggles upside and then place on a soft surface. Reach in with tweezers or your fingers and carefully remove the connector that is plugged into the board. Carefully plug in your power button on both ends and arrange the wires to nicely fit into the goggles. Pop the new door with the power button into place. This door/mod has only been tested on the Fatshark Dominator series of goggles. This includes the HDO's, HD3's, HD2's, and V3's. Try at your own risk! Mixing up wires definitely has the possibility of damaging your goggles.
