Easy Edges Body Contour Rocker - Frank Gehry
myminifactory
This is a Tinkercad Competition entry.\r\nEasy Edges is the name given to a collection of furniture designs created by Frank Gehry from 1969 to 1973. These early designs played a significant role in Gehry's rise to public fame during the early 1970s. After discovering that layered corrugated cardboard, when stacked in alternate directions, gains strength and becomes suitable for everyday use, Gehry developed a series of pieces of furniture such as the "Easy Edges Wiggle Side Chair" that leverage the versatility of cardboard as a medium. Hardboard facing is applied to the flat surfaces of the furniture to increase its durability. Gehry's use of cardboard demonstrates his fundamental concern with manipulating basic materials in unconventional ways to produce objects that are both functional and visually striking.\r\nHowever, the Easy Edges series never reached high production volumes due to sales prices exceeding rates Gehry had anticipated. This, combined with Gehry's reluctance to be known as a furniture designer rather than an architect, led to a cessation of production until Vitra AG relaunched four models from the Easy Edges series into production in 1986 (source: publication "Dimensions of Design" by Vitra Design Museum, 1997), including the "Wiggle" chair.
